As reported in Boing Boing and elsewhere, Friday was the 6th anniversary of the opening of the Guantánamo prison.
As reported in the Telegram & Gazette Worcester Catholic Worker (and reluctant Pie and Coffee contributor) Claire Schaeffer-Duffy was arrested for civil disobedience at the US Supreme Court as part of an anti-Gitmo protest.
Thanks for this information. I am always glad to be made aware of First Amendment / free speech violations as I am extremely into the power of words.
We love you, Claire!
This lead to us having a lunchtime conversation with our kids about how you can get arrested and it not necessarily mean that you’re a bad person. You might even get arrested because you’re doing a good thing!
If this protest were done online, there would be no arrests. Or it could be supplemented online. Check out iProtest, the future of protesting.

I’ve seen very few online protests that have the same sort of impact as an off-line protest. Using the same word to describe both of them seems a little inaccurate, in fact.
