Not directly related but concerned with prayers for the departed –
Nov. 21st was Transgender Day of Remembrance, which I mention here because Mike’s done a good job of covering trans community events on this blog.
Please offer a prayer for the 24 people who were murdered because they were transgender in 2008, for others we don’t know about, for still others in the transgender community who died of suicide, HIV, addiction, homelessness, because they were not treated in time or at all in hospitals, and because of other preventable occurrences.
Please think of Rita Hester, murdered 10 years ago in Boston, and all the others who have been murdered simply because someone discovered that they are transgender.
Take the time to learn about the community. This much death by murder in one community is unacceptable. It’s all of our problem. Please do something – even if it’s just examining your own attachment to the gender binary, and considering the ways that this binary is harmful or even deadly to others (and indeed, perhaps to all of us).
Pray for those who have passed and the activists and community members who live on and struggle.
Thanks
Thanks for the comment. At least one massgoer had been at the TDR, and said it was a good event.
